What do you need your Treadmill for?
Always begin by asking what you would like to achieve with this purchase.
For many people out there burning fat and shaping up a bit are the main objectives when buying a treadmill. Of course regular exercise is vital but research has shown that you can achieve fat loss and muscle toning on multi-gyms as well as cardio vascular gym equipment.
Call me for advice on exactly what type of gym equipment will suit your pockets and needs.
Good treadmills begin at just under R10 000 and for something a bit more exclusive you may be paying between R20 000 to R50 000 for the Rolls Royce of treadmills.
There are a couple of things that you may want to look at it of you are looking for gym equipment or cardio vascular equipment in South Africa.
As I mentioned good quality treadmills start at around R10 000. Best value treadmills are around the R13 000 to R18 000 mark with some exceptional warranties backed up by the best manufacturers in the world. In South Africa you will end up getting what you pay for. There are units under R6000 but how much usage over the years do you think that they will take? You might as well go second hand!, (oops did I just say that out aloud?)
Motor Horse power is measured in Horse Power. Be wary of exaggerated claims by people with small motors, (I won’t both drawing the obvious parallel with other small things). There are two types of HP measurement; Continuous, (the lower number) and peak, (the higher number). Make sure that you supplied knows both. In my opinion nothing below 2 horsepower (continuous usage) and 3.8 horsepower (peak)
My favourites are the reliable, easy to service, easy to put together gentle on the pockets brands like GS, Bremshey, Tunturi, Proteus and Strengthmaster.

Folding Versus No folding Treadmills
Folding treadmills allow you to place the running deck in an upright position when the treadmill is not in use. Folding treadmills are exceptionally popular with people who have limited training space.
